Welcome to Year 5

We will start the term by continuing our topic – ‘Were the Anglo-Saxons really smashing?’

The children are enjoying the topic so far! Over the next few weeks we will be looking at different sources of historical evidence that the Anglo-Saxons left behind and their legacy that lives on with us today.

We will also be continuing our Science Topic ‘Do all plants and animals start life as an egg?’. The children have enjoyed exploring the work of David Attenborough and his contribution to educating us about wildlife. We will be exploring life cycles by comparing the life processes of mammals, insects, amphibians, plants and birds. We are also hoping to visit the local RSPB wildlife centre where we will learn about classifying plants and animals.

Some important information for Year 5 parents/carers:

  • Year 5 will have P.E. on a Monday this half term, therefore please ensure that your child has a P.E.kit every week
  • Children will be taking part in guitar sessions with Mr Rooney every Monday

Year 5 teachers would like to encourage children to bring in water bottles and a piece of fruit for snack, if they wish. Reading should be brought in everyday so children do not miss any opportunities to read to an adult. Homework will be given on a Friday and should be returned to school on a Wednesday.
