Welcome to Year 5
Happy new year to everyone and welcome back! We hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas break and we are really looking forward to beginning our new term.
We will begin this half term with our new book ‘Journey to the River Sea’, this will enhance our Geography topic – ‘Why should the rainforest be important to us all?’ Our work in most other subjects will link to this topic and children will have the opportunity to set the questions they would like to answer along their learning journey. We will be researching the features of a rainforest, deforestation and locating rainforests around the world. Our Art, DT and ICT lessons will further enhance this topic.
Our Science topic is called ‘Do all plants and animals start life as an egg?’ This will involve dissecting a plant to learn about the different parts and functions. We will also explore and compare different life cycles of animals. We will use our ICT, Art and DT skills to maximise our learning in this topic.
Some important information for Year 5 parents/carers:
- Year 5 will have P.E. on a Monday this half term, therefore please ensure that your child has a P.E. kit every week
- Children will be taking part in guitar sessions with Mr Rooney every Monday.
Year 5 teachers would like to encourage children to bring in water bottles and a piece of fruit for snack, if they wish. Book bags should be brought in everyday so children do not miss any opportunities to read to an adult. Homework will be given on a Thursday and should be returned to school on a Wednesday.
