Breakfast and After School Club

The School provides provision from 8.00am for children who require breakfast club. This is held in the dining area and children will receive cereal, toast and a drink. After breakfast, children are encouraged to play games, complete any homework tasks or simply to socialise with each other. This facility is available for any child from reception age. Payment is 50p per child per day and is to be paid via ParentPay at the start of the week. Breakfast club is currently run as a drop in club so there is no need to pre book, last entry in to breakfast club is 8.30am.

When the day starts with breakfast, students can focus on the task at hand better and become less distracted by outside influences and other students. They’re also able to understand what’s being taught more easily and retain that new information better than students who are hungry because they’ve skipped breakfast. Students who eat breakfast before starting their school day don’t just concentrate better, they tend to score better on academic tests in math and reading. According to a study published in the Journal of Economics, students in schools that offered free breakfasts before class scored about 25% higher on math, reading and science tests. Researchers believe that this is because the breakfast provides the energy necessary to increase cognitive, or thinking, speed and problem-solving skills. It’s not just about test scores and concentration, though. Eating breakfast can help students meet their daily nutrient needs more easily. According to a report published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, children who regularly eat breakfast take in approximately 20% to 60% more iron, B vitamins and vitamin D than children who skip breakfast. Breakfast eaters also tend to take in more daily fibre and lower total fat and dietary cholesterol.

At Leamington, with the help of the National Breakfast Programme we offer every child a free bagel before lessons start to set up the children to succeed and give them the very best chance to learn.

After school club is available until 4:00pm. Children have the opportunity to play games, use the equipment on the playground and have access to the ICT suite. After school club is run by Mike, Jackie and Liz. Children can be collected via the main office.

For parents requiring later childcare Ellergreen After School Club offer a wraparound service where they will collect the children from school and can stay with them until 5.45pm
