Personal Development and Wellbeing
Personal Development and Wellbeing at Leamington
At Leamington Community Primary School, personal development and wellbeing are part of everyday school life. We want every child to feel safe, valued and listened to, with opportunities to try new things, build friendships and grow in confidence. Our values of Friendship, Respect, Honesty, Determination and Courage help children make choices, respond to challenges and care for others.
Learning in every classroom
Children develop life skills through PSHE and relationships education, our Wellbeing Wednesday activities, online safety learning, assemblies and conversations throughout the school day. They learn to recognise and talk about feelings, build healthy relationships, celebrate differences, make safe choices and know when and how to ask for help.
Personal development also runs through the wider curriculum. Stories can help children understand another person’s experience; teamwork in PE can build resilience and respect; and creative work gives children new ways to express themselves. We encourage children to reflect on what they have learned about themselves as well as the subject they are studying.
Experiences beyond the classroom
Visits, trips, visitors, performances and special events bring learning to life. They give children the chance to explore new places and ideas, practice independence and discover interests they may not have encountered before. Afterwards, we invite children to share what they enjoyed, what they learned and how the experience could be improved. Their views help us plan meaningful opportunities for the future.
Clubs and enrichment
Our enrichment activities give children more ways to belong, participate and shine. Opportunities across school include creative arts, dance and musical theatre, computing, cooking, sewing, sport and other activities. After school clubs offer time to develop interests and friendships, while pupil groups such as School Council, Wellbeing Warriors and Online Safety Officers help children take responsibility and make a positive contribution to school life.
We listen to pupils and review participation so that children with different interests and needs can access these opportunities.

Looking after wellbeing
Positive relationships are at the heart of our approach. Daily check-ins, the Zones of Regulation, movement and sensory breaks, and dedicated wellbeing activities help children understand their emotions and find strategies that work for them. We also mark events such as World Mental Health Day and Children’s Mental Health Week to encourage open, age appropriate conversations.
Some children benefit from extra support at different times. Our Inclusion Team works with children, families and external partners to identify needs early and provide support, including mentoring and small group work.
The Leamington Life Logbook — coming soon
We are developing the Leamington Life Logbook for children from EYFS to Year 6. It will give each child an age appropriate way to record experiences, recognise their strengths and reflect on their personal development.
Children will be able to celebrate the things they have tried, think about how they have shown our school values and set goals for what they would like to do next. The logbook will help them see how much they have grown throughout their time at Leamington. We look forward to sharing more soon.
Listening and improving
We use pupil voice, conversations with families and staff, and our review of school activities to understand what is working well and where we can improve. Children’s ideas help shape our lessons, enrichment and wellbeing provision.
We want every child to leave Leamington with happy memories, strong relationships, confidence in their abilities and the courage to take their next steps. Together we make a difference.
