Welcome to Reception

This term in Reception!

Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful half-term break and are feeling refreshed and ready for our final half term in Reception. We can’t believe how quickly this year has gone!

This half term, we will be learning all about our environment and the living things within it. The children will have the opportunity to plant and care for their own plants and flowers, watching them grow and change over time. We will also be exploring the importance of recycling and looking after our world. Our learning will be supported by our exciting story character, Michael Recycle, who will help us discover how small actions can make a big difference to the environment.

In Maths, we will continue developing our number sense beyond 10, practising counting forwards and backwards to 20, and using mathematical vocabulary confidently. We will also consolidate our understanding of addition and subtraction and begin exploring doubling and halving.

In Literacy, we will continue working hard on our reading skills and learning phonics every day. We will be visiting more characters in our magical story world and will begin the half term by exploring non-fiction texts about plants and growing. Through stories, role play and imaginative activities, we will continue developing our speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Don’t forget:

  • Read and sign your child’s reading record every night.
  • Reading books will be changed on Thursday to go home on Friday.

Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to a fun-filled final half term together!
